American Association of Cereal Chemists Award recipient

Graduate fellowships available for eligible candidates. Must be enrolled in an M.S. or Ph.D. program and conducting fundamental research investigations for the advancement of cereal science and technology, including oilseeds.

American Chemical Society

Donald A. Withycombe Graduate Fellowship in Food Chemistry awarded to a beginning graduate student. Must have outstanding undergraduate and beginning graduate GOA and show promise of an excellent graduate research career.

American Dietetic Association

Several scholarships for students enrolled in an advanced degree program. Must be a U.S. citizen and intend to pursue a career in the field of dietetics.

Pre-doctoral fellowships available for students specializing in nutrition research.

Dr. Jerry and Stella Cash Professional Development Endowment Fund

Award for graduate teaching assistantships in food science and in foodservice management. Awarded to an food service and human nutrition graduate student with preference for financial need.

Chenoweth Award in Dietetics and Human Nutrition

Award for a dietetic student accepted into a Dietetic Internship Program or a graduate student in human nutrition or medical-related program.

Dairy Recognition and Education Foundation

M.E. Grands Scholarship – Scholarships available to students pursuing an advanced degree in programs emphasizing dairy foods or food science, agricultural economics and dairy marketing.

Dr. Lawrence E. and Violet I. Dawson Professional Development Endowment Fund

Graduate teaching assistantships for graduate students in food science. Preference for student with financial need.

Detroit Dietetic Association

Leroy and Dorothy Dugan Food Chemistry Fellowship Endowment

Award to a U.S. graduate student with research in the field of lipid chemistry.

Food Science and Human Nutrition Graduate Endowment in Honor of Dawson, Harmon and LeVeille

Award to a graduate student in FSHN with demonstrated teaching proficiency.  Funds to provide financial assistance and professional enhancement.

Beth and Holly Fryer Endowed Scholarship

Award for an undergraduate student in food technology and management or a graduate student in human nutrition. Minimum GPA of 3.2.

Gerber Endowment Fund in Pediatric Nutrition and Food Science

Awarded to Ph.D. graduate students in nutrition or food science actively engaged in research relevant to nutrition and food science with emphasis on pediatrics who demonstrate academic excellence. Must provide a statement of how your research relates to nutrition and food science with an emphasis on pediatrics.

Gerber Writing Award

$3,000 first prize in annual writing competition open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition.

The Max Gonzenbach Fund for Student Mentoring and Research

Awarded to a full-time graduate student in FSHN with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Must identify interest in participating in faculty-mentored research projects and scholarly opportunities designed to increase the understanding of foods, nutrition and health outcomes. Particular emphasis will be applied to dairy-based foods. 

LeeAnn B. Goodwin Endowed Graduate Research Fellowship

Research fellowships awarded to graduate students with research in newly emerging areas of nutrition.

H.A.M.M. Scholarship

Award for a graduate student enrolled in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition. Preference given to graduate students studying food service management.

Institute of Food Technologists

Fifty-five nationally competitive awards available for food science graduate students with research programs in the area of food science/technology.

Institute of Food Technologists Food Packaging Division

Fellowship available for outstanding graduate students.  Research must be in a food packaging area. The Institute of Food Technologists Graduate Fellowship application is used to apply for this award.

Institute of Food Technologists Graduate Paper Competition

Travel awards and first-, second- and third-place awards for presentation of an original research paper. Paper may be on any subject related to food science and technology.

Institute of Food Technologists Product Development Competition

Travel grants and first-, second- and third-place prizes for teams entering a product proposal for competition.

Institute of Food Technologists Great Lakes Section

Graduate Achievement Award for a graduate student in food science and a member of the Institute of Food Technologists.

Three awards are available to undergraduate and graduate students majoring in food science/technology areas including human nutrition, dietetics, food microbiology and food chemistry. Must be resident of Lake Erie region as defined by the Institute of Food Technologists.

Phil Bates Scholarship-Awards available to graduate students studying in food technology, food science, nutrition or related field. Must be resident of Southern California area as defined by the Institute of Food Technologists.

Institute for Thermal Processing Specialists

Award for student manuscript competition. Undergraduate and graduate students pursuing research relevant to the thermal processing of food are eligible to submit manuscripts.

Erlund Kondrup Fellowship

Award to a full-time masters or doctoral student in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition with preference given to students interested in dairy processing or dairy chemistry. Award is given to enrich the graduate experiences and encourage professional involvement (travel reimbursement and research expenditures).

Olaf and Clarice Mickelsen Human Nutrition Endowed Fellowship

Funds to support a graduate student majoring in human nutrition.

National Pork Producers Council

Fellowship available to a doctoral candidate conducting research on the use of pork as a food.

Annette Rachman Scholarship

Award for an undergraduate in dietetics or a graduate student in food service administration. Special consideration for applicants employed to financially assist in their educational goals. Minimum GPA of 2.0.

Lois Gordon Ridley Endowed Scholarships/Fellowships

Award to a FSHN graduate student. Preference for a student with financial need.

Sara Lee Endowment Fund for Food Safety in Food Science and Human Nutrition

Graduate assistantships for students in FSHN studying food microbiology with specific emphasis on food safety initiatives.

Rachel A. Schemmel Graduate Student Endowed Research Scholarship

Award to a nutrition graduate student in FSHN or food science graduate student with a bachelor's of science degree in nutrition or dietetics. Must complete one semester and submit approved research proposal or have current publication.

Society of Toxicology Food Safety Section

Award to an outstanding graduate student working on research in food toxicology/safety within an academic program of toxicology, food science, nutrition or related fields.

Stiver Endowed Fellowship

Awarded to a graduate student in FSHN with preference for financial need.

Technomic Publishing Company

Food Science Dissertation Award – first-place and second-place awards for imaginative and promising research by students pursuing a doctoral degree in food science.

Thoman Fellowship

Award for outstanding international doctoral students at MSU. Applicants must show professional interest in the issues of poverty, hunger and food security. Must have an outstanding academic record, a high degree of motivation, previous professional experience and demonstrated promise for future contributions in their home countries.
